Derek M.A. Alexander was born in N.Y.C. He now lives in Wilmington, DE. He is passionate about shaping the landscape of the City’s visual and performing arts. Due to an eye disorder called “macular degeneration,” he is legally blind. He has learned to work with his challenge, and integrates technology into his artistic and business endeavors. In 1999, he formed New Horizons Media, LLC. Through it, he has: published books; created art; helped small and disadvantaged businesses; produced songs and TV shows. Shows and Honors Art Slam – Visions of a Blind Poet” and “Journey into Sight and Sound," SSAM, 9/11 & 6/12; Art Loop – “Conscious,” Tasmiyah, 10/11; “A Taste of Art,” Veritas, 3/12; “Visions of a Blind Artist," North Wilm. Library, 6/12; The Innovators Club – “The Art of Doing Business," 4/12; Two-time Int'l Society of Poets "Poet of the Year”; Designed Delaware's "First State Cup," the trophy fought for in the “Route 1 Rivalry” games between the UD and DSU football teams.
