My career has been as an educator and technologist. I have been working on education reform since I started in the early 90's when I was a team member of The Odyssey Project in Gaston County NC. We were one of a few sites funded by NASDC -- New American Schools Development Corporation and one of George Bush senior's "1000 points of light." I took what I learned from this innovative K-12 educational reform project and have used it while working in Brunswick County Schools, UNC-Wilmington as a professor, Lesley University, Coastal Carolina, NC Community College system and as consultant with other educational institutions. Two things that have come out of my research and personal education are Cross-Functional Learning Teams and my Utopian School model. The first is a way to make learning real, engage both students and faculty, and have both work on projects with meaning and value to the community and society at large. The second, The Utopian School, is a teacher-lead model my wife and I developed around 2013.
