Kaavya Bajaj, a freshman at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, co-founded the non-profit organization YouthCare Connect. Through this organization, she works to make a meaningful impact on patients and students in her community by promoting education, care, and empathy. The idea to create journals sparked in her mind when her brother was hospitalized, his face the color of her white sweatshirt. He remarkably had survived his hospital stay in the ICU, and the nurses there had played a major role in keeping her brother happy during these difficult times. After his hospital stay, Kaavya realized the importance of the humanity in medicine. She believed her journals would be a perfect way to humanize and improve patient care.
