A proposito di
Lynette Charters

Charters (she/her) is a conceptual artist and creator of The Missing Women/Parents Series, presenting a new perspective of society and history from the female/parent identifying points of view. Charters re-renders famous paintings, substituting bodies with unpainted wooden substrate, to represent the erasure of their lived experiences from recorded history. She tells many stories of the sitters in famous paintings. Charters is also the creator of The Matilda Effect Series which seeks to amplify and preserve history from the female identifying perspective, to forefront the achievements of women astronomers, scientists, inventors, creators, leaders and resisters, all painted on pertinent household objects, to draw attention to women being applauded for domesticity and supporting roles, while their groundbreaking works elsewhere are written out of history, or credited to the nearest male. Charters grew up in The Yorkshire Dales in The North of England. She holds an MFA from Chelsea College of Art, London, and a BFA (hons) from Cardiff University, Wales. She studied under internationally renowned painter Graham Crowley, printmaker Amanda Faulkner, sculptors Ian Taylor, and Andy Goldsworthy working on two of his larger outdoor sculptures.
