Russ Hubbard was born and raised in New England. He graduated from Kent School, Connecticut and Stanford University. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he taught U.S. History at Claremont High School in California and earned an MA in U.S. History and Ph.D. in Education at the Claremont Graduate University. He retired in 2001 from Eastern Washington University as Professor of Education, emeritus, and began a second career as a writer. He and his wife Kathy, the artist for the book’s cover, live in Superior, Wisconsin where Kathy teaches Art Education at the University of Wisconsin—Superior.
