These Photographs were created by Nawfal Nur, between March 2009 and January 2010. The shells and sandstone pieces were found on the beaches around Penang Island, Malaysia. All of these images were photographed in Penang, at his Table-top Studio. The key for taking the shell photographs was to express in photographic terms, the texture, curvature, and translucent properties of the shells. The main focus of the sandstone photos, was to capture the texture and how light bends around the shapes of the sandstone. Pushing the boundaries of what Ansel Adams calls the "textural range" was a major goal for this photography adventure. When designing this work, Nawfal had in mind a finished product similar in vein to Brooks Jensen's “Folios” concept. A “Folio” is basically a collection of hand-holdable, book-sized prints, which could include text, and it is presented in some sort of enclosure. The difference with this work is that it is in an electronic format.
