THE FOUR FEATHERS is a 1902 adventure novel by British writer A. E. W. Mason that has inspired many films of the same title. Cornhill Magazine serialized the novel in 1902 and THE MACMILLAN COMPANY published it in book form in 1903. This edition is respectfully dedicated to Bill Ross, who brought this wonderful novel to the attention of the publisher.
Against the background of the Mahdist War, young Feversham disgraces himself by quitting his regiment; others condemn his cowardice, symbolized by the four white feathers they give him. He belatedly redeems himself with acts of courage and wins back the heart of the woman he loves.
The novel has been adapted into seven films, the first in 1915 and the most recent in 2002. Over the years, the films have featured Fay Wray, Ralph Richardson, James Robertson, Robert Powell, Beau Bridges, Jane Seymour, and Heath Ledger.
