One of biggest problems facing developing countries is the rate of urbanisation, and the time it takes to plan and deliver traditional infrastructure. This is one of the key reasons which lead to slums developing around cities.
Kibera outside Nairobi is one of the largest slums in the world. With possibly over 1,000,000 people crammed into an area just a little over 3km by 1km, this is an area lacking almost all the basic services people should expect.
This document was written a briefing document for a project to develop a telecommunications and Internet solution for Kibera, leading to a model which can be readily adopted by any city authority to quickly and affordably deliver communications to almost any urban environment.
Any proceeds from this document will be going to help fund the trial project in Kibera.
