Tess and Ruin

Tess made a wish she had no business making. Drunk and furious on the dock where her parents used to take her, on the anniversary of the day they died, with six months left in her skull and a diagnosis she never asked for, she looked up at a falling star and wished for the end of everything. She wanted ruin. She got it. He arrives wearing the shape of a man and the patience of something that has watched the world end a thousand times over. He is every car wreck and every collapse, every rained-out funeral, every last breath drawn in a hospital room at four in the morning. He is so tired of being what he is.
