THE RIVER

The River is a solo piano improvisation that Keith Jarrett plays on his recording, "Always Let Me Go." It's a beautiful and evocative piece of music that lends itself to a chamber orchestra setting thanks to his brilliant use of counterpoint and, of course, his strong sense melody and harmony. The recording of this piece will be on a forthcoming CD, "Chamber Songs," to be released by Sunnyside in Spring 2010. Instrumentation: trumpet, trombone, soprano sax, tenor sax, bass clarinet, string quartet, and bass (the piece works especially well when all string parts are doubled). This download also includes a concert score.
