Athens Full Color is an observational study of the globalized city. Accompanied by the short notebook Notes on the City, this collection of images depicts the coexistence of the classical Hellenic world with the countless influences arriving from the global landscape.
The world's most democratic city closes its doors to no one, even at the risk of a certain degree of chaos. Contemporary Athenians themselves often describe their identity as more anarchic than democratic. This theme concerns Europe as a whole, which, in the end—and perhaps fortunately—continues to draw nourishment from its Athenian roots.
How should one understand their identity in a globalized and globalizing world? How can it be represented? What is the balance between openness and the exclusion embodied in the notions of “ours” and “theirs”?
Through a series of fragments drawn from the city's surface, this small book seeks to draw attention to these contemporary questions, portraying a mixture of dissonant codes that nevertheless achieve a form of equilibrium.
