The Not-So-Lonely Tree

'The Not-So-Lonely Tree' is a rhyming picture book, intended to be an informative first introduction for young readers to the wonderful world of fungi.  If children can get excited to learn long Latin names of extinct dinosaurs, than why not fungi that live on the planet today? The story is told from the perspective of a isolated tree in the forest that comes to find it is not so lonely after all, surrounding by a whole kingdom of fungal friends.  This manuscript wraps complex scientific concepts into a simple watercolor-illustrated story set in an ancient kingdom, with whimsical characters meant to evoke a child’s curiosity and wonder.  Backmatter includes a simple chart showing examples of a few major characters from the story, to put into perspective how closely related they are to each other and animals.
