Nothing Beside Remains

A doctor desperate to reconstruct the life and death of his estranged son uses the recollections of a wounded soldier of the Great War to fill the void in his own memories. He soon discovers, though, that this damaged young man is recounting the events of Alice in Wonderland, blood-soaked and mud-dragged through the trenches of wartime Belgium. The difficulties we face in making ethical choices, fulfilling our duties, finding love, sustaining friendships, and struggling to survive might all be for nothing when it seems that someone has written down our whole life story in advance of our living.
