Winchfield is a small parish in north-east Hampshire. It has retained its rural character over its long lifetime. Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, it is an ancient village referenced in manorial records as belonging to the Monastery of Chertsey. Once part of the great kingdom of Wessex, the area around the church was probably the site of a medieval village; the pattern of narrow lanes date from the twelfth century. The iconic Norman St Mary’s church, built around 1150, is the oldest Grade 1 listed building in Hart.
This book documents the life of the village from the very earliest days to the start of the twentieth century.
