This excellent and long out of print book from 1936 by the American journalist Anna Louise Strong, gives us a first-hand account of life in the Soviet Union during the 1930s.
During this period the Soviet Union, led by the working class in alliance with the peasantry, accomplished amazing things. In record time, the USSR industrialized their country. They freed the working class from exploitation and liberated oppressed nationalities and women. They stamped out illiteracy and guaranteed housing, health care, education, and a decent standard of living.
This book is valuable in that it shows us the great achievements of the USSR in a simple and accessible language. It gives us a clear picture of what socialism, the working class in power, can accomplish.
