A science fiction convention is happening in the London suburb of Greenford. Hastily organised by people for whom the phrase 'motley crew' was invented, it features the dreariest guests and tackiest exhibits. However it's attracted quite a crowd due to the advertised appearance of Rupert Houghton, the eponymous star of Moonquake, the early 60s TV series, episodes of which no longer exist. Houghton has been unheard of since the programme's last transmission in 1964. But then it's disclosed that Houghton has not actually been located. He may not even be alive. Or is he? Can Houghton be found and persuaded to attend the convention in time to save the organisers from Death by a Thousand Anoraks?
