ARFID and I

ARFID and I is a heartfelt children’s story written by two young people with lived experience of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). When Brenna-Mae and Macy are invited to a birthday party, they’re excited to celebrate with their friends. But when Arffy the ARFID Monster appears, the party suddenly feels much bigger and more overwhelming than they expected. Through a gentle and reassuring story, young readers discover that ARFID isn’t simply “picky eating.” It can be linked to fear, sensory sensitivities, anxiety, or difficult past experiences. With kindness, understanding, and support, children learn that everyone experiences food differently—and that no one should face those challenges alone.
