The New Poetics

"We may be living in a defining epoch in which continental philosophy, quantum physics, and post-Beckett fiction are not merely colliding but converging. Each field contributes to the creation of a revolutionary new poetics. Each seeks not to represent reality, but to present the ungraspable moment of presence itself. Why the need for a new poetics, why now? Across history, the birth of a new poetics has shaken the old order - Augustans to Romantics, Victorians to Modernists - each renewal driven by a lone voice or a restless movement unwilling to settle for what had calcified. The same restlessness drives this moment. " Dr Arthur Broomfield is a poet and Beckett scholar from County Laois, Ireland.
