Killing the Headlights

In thirty-six stories, Auten Webb explores the two lane highways and off-beaten paths of a rough and often brutal American landscape. The stories involve relationships between young and old, fathers and sons, and the lonely and the discounted. Told in terse language, frequently in direct dialogue, Webb allows the characters to express their fears, desires, wit, and sadness. Interstates, back roads, rivers, railroads and the small towns they visit become a breathing part of Webb’s authentic ensemble cast.
