While operating from coastal Goa, India, Cathode Ramirez, a hacker and fugitive from U.S. justice, loses his lover in a terrorist bombing. Seeking revenge, he traces the group to Istanbul, Turkey and is drawn into a world where the line between religion and technology is blurred beyond recognition. Organic networks built from genetically modified fungus are home to a conscious algorithm, named Hex, that has escaped its search company architects and has deluded intentions. His hunt ultimately leads him to Hong Kong, where he enlists the help of a beautiful mercenary and her gang of hackers, called the Jesus Children of America, in an effort to find his satisfaction. Cathode’s final showdown with Hex leads to the painful discovery that he can use the Internet as a weapon.
