Little Herder in Winter

llustrator Hoke Denetsosie captures the dignity and importance of a traditional way of life in his vivid illustrations. Children today grow up in a world of constant distraction, consumption and entertainment. The Little Herder reader series helps remind children and adults alike to seek fulfillment from more simple things. These four Diné readers were first published in this bilingual version in September 1940 by the education division of the office of Indian Affairs. They were an outstanding achievement for their sensitively rendered cultural content, establishment of a written Navajo language and for their illustrations by Hoke Denetsosie.
