Ragtime An Encyclopedia, Discography, and Sheetography

This work is the culmination of over fifty-five years of study, research, collecting, and performing. I have been most fortunate to have several friends with whom I have collaborated in the past and who share my love of this subject. From the time we first met, on his home ground of St. Louis, Missouri, at the Goldenrod Showboat, Trebor Jay Tichenor and I have shared a life of performing; collecting sheet music, flat-disc recordings, piano rolls, catalogs, trade publications, periodicals, original ragtime artifacts (Would you believe the door to the Rosebud bar?); and talking about and writing about the living history of ragtime. Much of these thoughts are to be found in this volume.
