She knew that in reality Thomas Alva Edison, the World's greatest inventor in her eyes, had most likely lost his hearing due to Scarlet Fever and many ear infections that followed. Loving someone, really loving someone causes their happiness to become your happiness. And hearing his story over and over made Cory happy.
