Grandfather Raven, who had always been, spread his wings, wanting to fly. One deep breath, one long exhale, and the wind therein let him take to the air he’d created. His breath became the sky, and as he flew his feet reached out before him. Gathering his breath with his feet, shaping and molding it, he spread it before him and landed upon it. As his wings fluttered and disturbed the air, the clouds formed around him. His feet continued to move as he stood on the land, stretching it forth for as far as he cared to walk. His footprints created peaks and valleys, his talons carved canyons, and his efforts moved the earth until it piled into mountains. In the darkness he walked. He poked holes in the night sky, and seeing light beyond sought it out, stole it, and illuminated the world. He called forth the other great spirits, and together celebrated creation. All that sprung from the earth, Grandfather named, sating his imagination. Soon Bear was called to the mountains, Buffalo to the plains, Wolf to the forest, Eagle to the skies, and Salmon to the river, and Raven was once again alone. Then one day, sitting at the edge of the world, looking out over the vast waters, Grandfather Raven’s loneliness birthed the first people: man and woman. From them stemmed humankind, and Grandfather was pleased. Alas, these creations were not eternal, but being so entertained by them, Raven delivered their souls from his world to the spirit world beyond. Humanity flourished, from hundreds to thousands, and thousands to far, far more. Grandfather could no longer shepherd them alone, and so he gathered his most devoted amongst them. He tested them, questioned them, and then offered them a gift that would forever change their lives. Unkindness is a Modulus world, where players assume the mantle of one of Grandfather’s Raven, ageless shifters that can turn between human and raven. Charged to live joyously and safeguard mankind, Raven guide, protect, and inspire humanity. They deliver the souls of the lost to the spirit world beyond and guard humanity from unspeakable horrors. They are humanity’s greatest asset, yet they are outnumbered, overworked, and in over their heads.
