REALITY IS NOT A GAME. ROB HARVESTER's been working all year to help his basketball team get to the State Championship, and it's finally paid off. (Never mind that he's been using pain as a boost to get him there.) But after his mom's death and his dad becoming increasingly distant––well, how's he supposed to deal with it all? Before the championship, he learns that Oakley High is being shut down due to a takeover by a railroad company and it looks like their team will collapse. To escape their misery, Rob and his friends play a mysterious new arcade game called Cyber Sand, and find themselves trapped inside the game. Rob has to face obstacles he's never imagined, fight monsters that could only be unreal, and deal with reality that is even darker.
