The play chronicles the life of Harriet Foster, a woman who has recently died of cancer. Her story is told by her daughter, Greta, who narrates snapshots from the past via a memoir her mother has written and left behind. Through the memoir, Harriet recaptures the events of her life as centered around important kisses as well as moments when, for various reasons, kissing did not occur. As she reads, Greta learns new and sometimes difficult truths about her family and must decide how to come to terms with the past.
