A New York City commuter ferry carrying the sister of the head of the De Beers diamond cartel is hijacked to ransom her and the other passengers for a fortune in diamonds.
Everyone from the Department of Homeland Security to the Russian and Italian Mafias gets involved, but it's one rumpled ex-cop private detective and his police girlfriend (he frets she may be too young for him-or maybe not) who break the case and bring the hijackers to justice.
