Ozarks Lite is a story prompted by my travels. These are the experiences based on my retiring and moving to a rural setting, where I learned to build a house, and more importantly, a home. John Hanks follows some of the same paths. A journey that had as many false starts as it did happy destinations. Starting from the despair of losing his wife to cancer and trying to escape it by going to check out a property inherited from a nearly forgotten aunt, John finds a new interest in life. Getting accustomed to the culture of the rural Ozarks, learning to build, to do things for himself, re-discovering love and passion; all lead him toward joy. Building a home is one of his first trials and he manages to survive it with the help of local folk. Finding companionship is a dangerous task. One he doesn’t feel competent to take on. A gay business woman and a waitress help him cope. Still, there is risk. But with the promise of a good life.
