THE SHOW HAS BEGUN

Hello, my name is Bruce Yu. In March of this year, I returned to China and encountered a memorable performance in Chikan, Kaiping. It was a vivid and captivating show. Through dance and carefully crafted costumes, the performers brought to life the charm and spirit of early 20th-century China, allowing history to quietly unfold within the streets. As a member of the audience, I had the privilege of witnessing this performance firsthand. I raised my camera and captured moment after moment—on stage and behind the scenes alike. After a careful process of selection, I gathered the images I felt most strongly about and shaped them into this photobook, titled The Show Has Begun. Through these photographs, I hope viewers can not only enjoy the beauty of the performances, but also glimpse the distinctive elegance and enduring allure of Chinese culture.
