The Belfry Tolls is a collection of poems that spans three distinct lives. It moves along in a semi-chronological order. That is to say, each section is a time-line for a character's life. The poems move in order from event-to-event, oldest to most recent; however, each poem is not necessarily about the same single person. The collection consists of three sections. "The Father" traces the life of a father from life to death. "The Son" chronicles the life of his son, from high school, through his joining of the military, and finally ending with the death of his father. "The Holy Spirit" describes what occurs after death. Throughout the collection, there is a sub-theme of the heroes who put their lives at stake so that we can sleep soundly at night. It is for them whom the belfry tolls.
