First published in 1892 Beric the Briton, by G. A. Henty, is about the invasion of Britain by the Roman legionaries. Beric plays an important and significant role in the insurrection under Queen Boadicea (A.D. 62). After the queens defeat, Beric continues the struggle until his defeat when he is taken captive to Rome. There, in a school of gladiators he is taught the exercise of arms. Upon his return to Britain he becomes ruler of his people.
