CREATE Common Ground is the result of a partnership between the Carl Small Town Center (CSTC) at the School of Architecture at Mississippi State University and the CREATE Foundation (http://www.createfoundation.com) that began in 1998. It is the partnership’s belief that the greatest impediment to community development is the community’s ability to identify and understand the impact of the built environment on the quality of life. Each year, a community in Northeast Mississippi is selected from a pool of applicants to participate in the CREATE Common Ground class. This year, the City of Houston was selected by the CSTC and the CREATE Foundation. Students Ryan Burrage, Nick Jackson, Michael Klein, Adrian Massey, Stevie O'Neal, Mark Talley, Finas Townsend, and Kate Wylie opted to become involved in this service-learning class, taught by Cari Varner.
