Plague Ritter is an historical miniatures war game that does not use any dice rolls. It is in the style of DBA, WRG Ancients, Tactica, War Machine and Warhammer. It is played on a chess board or on a battlefield laid out in squares. It is not a chess variant but chess players will find it interesting. It was originally published under the title "Ritter" in 1996. It has undergone 5 editions before this one. Games take only 15 minutes to play so it is perfect for campaign games played in a single day. The rules innovation is an order of precedence to determine combat outcomes. The first description that fits is what happens. So players only attack when they will win but they need to win in the right places to shape the battleground. They need to herd their opponents into a killing ground. Students of Sun Tzu's "Art of War" will see how those lessons play out in practice.
