The cousins turned to look and there was that tom turkey standing on the curb as if he were waiting for a break in traffic. Suddenly he stepped off the curb and began strutting across the street, gobble, gobble!, head held high, as if he expected traffic to just stop for him. And stop it did! Cars screeched! and honked! and drivers scratched their heads at the sight of a little turkey weaving his way through traffic. He finally made it to the curb in front of the brownstone and stepped up. He walked right up to Sweetpea and gobble-gobbled! pecking at the bag which held her veggie sandwich.
