Created for old-school philosophers and all lovers of wisdom, it is a reference book with all fill-in-the-blanks. The reader picks a page and thinks on it until something clicks. (Usually this is the part where a friend interrupts you and asks what you are doing.) Once you're able to make the decision about your initial approach, you answer the question, writing a brief note or as much as suits your taste. It's suggested that you track your progress with a hash-mark when the page is finished to your liking, so you can see how many completions you have to your credit. By the time you are done with this workbook, you have looked at every category of human thought from every possible angle. With Roget's 238 categories each divided by Aristotle's topics of invention, it will be some time before you finish the book completely. Its purpose is not the seizing of wisdom so much as the pursuit: Or, as the author says, 'it keeps one practiced in conceptual gymnastics... it is a metaphysical sudoku.'
