An Illustrated Guide to Practical Dreaming is primarily an autobiographical account of the vistas and personas discovered through practical dreaming. Practical dreaming is posited to be an existing faculty of spirit and arena of experience. It differs from meditation insofar as there is content that must be sustained through concentration. It differs from lucid dreaming insofar that it may occur outside of sleep and it has definite relation to the world and beings around us. While the account is of a subjective nature, each episode reveals a universal or archetypical experience of a dreamer. The illustrations were initially produces as a vehicle for the exploration of the dreamworld and were later appended to the text.
