The Black Sabbath and After: Israel, War and Jew Hate is a collection of articles, short essays and musings on the 7 October atrocities committed by Hamas in Israel and on the resultant Gaza War and explosion of antisemitism worldwide. Originally written as journal entries, they are essential for understanding the reactions of Jews globally at this time. The themes of the articles range from the political to the spiritual and religious, informed by the author’s strong Jewish identity and knowledge of Jewish and Israeli history and of classic and modern Jewish religious texts. The articles give insight into the thought processes of a religious, yet modern, diaspora Jew at the time of the worst global crisis for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. It will appeal both to Jews struggling to grasp what has happened and to non-Jews trying to understand the Jewish response.
