Redeemed in the Last Frontier begins with a plane crash loosely based upon an actual event. Jim McKay, the reputable owner of an Alaskan wilderness lodge is killed under circumstances that defy reason for those who knew him. He was reportedly killed instantly, while the guide riding with him sustained comparatively minor injuries. A week later, it was overheard that the guide “wasn’t supposed to get hurt in this deal, and could cause problems for us down the road.”
Small plane crashes in Alaska aren’t that unusual. Nor are hostile business takeovers. Now one may be the result of the other, and it looks curiously similar in circumstances to one that occurred three years before involving the same resort firm, presently many times larger. The authorities quickly rule Jim’s crash as caused by pilot error, the same as they did the one that claimed the life of Paul Dumont three years before. Jim’s brother Dan was already helping Paul’s widow Michele prove his death was no accident.
