This is the transcription of a tape recorded interview that I made in 1963 with a family friend, a man who had served in the First World War as a Mounted Cavalry soldier. As such he saw the war both on horseback and in the trenches. I made the interview when I was a Sandhurst cadet, and was amazed then by his memories. But today as I type this transcript out, I am even more amazed. This transcript is written word for word, just as he said it, from the recording I made then . Live. Real. It therefore doesn't flow as such and may be difficult to understand in places, but I have deliberately kept it this way. The experiences of such men should never be forgotten, and I hope you will read it. Any proceeds from this book will go to military charity.
