Ac 4:33 ‘With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all’. It was this verse, as part of a recent sermon (plus the explanation that follows), that led me to think of writing this offering, where some commentators refer to the dedication of the disciples. As is often the case, I woke at silly-o-clock on a Monday morning, thinking about the previous evening’s sermon, so was not too surprised when I was humming ‘They seek him here, they seek him there…’ (From the song Dedicated Follower of Fashion, by The Kinks), as I was waking, thankfully not loud enough to wake my wife, as she would have sought me all the way downstairs. The song reminded me of how we, as Christians, should be seeking Jesus every day of our lives: whether we do or not, and why, is what I intend to consider in this book. My early, not so informative years, was when I began ‘following Jesus’: no Damascus Road experience, no bells and whistles, incantations, deep-rooted feelings, no overwhelming desire to become the next local missionary – but I was offered the chance to repeat what is commonly called the ‘sinner’s prayer.’
