"Getting Over Me" is a collection of contemporary poetic reflections on "The Eight Verses of Training the Mind," which were written 800 years ago by Geshe Langri Thangpa, a great Tibetan Buddhist master. The Eight Verses - the heart of the Tibetan practices for training the mind in compassion - deeply challenge us all to turn around our self-centered and egotistical attitudes.
"Getting Over Me" shares honest, touching, and often wry and humorous glimpses into the author's struggle with this challenge in the modern-day Western world. Computer crashes, terror alerts, TV news, courtroom dramas, burnout, and nuclear weapons all become grist for contemplation and transformation. "Getting Over Me" shows that the Eight Verses are as relevant today as ever and invites readers to take them to heart.
