Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach designed to provide long-term support for Autistic people who may display behaviours that challenge. It combines person-centred values with principles of behavioural science, using evidence to guide decision-making. Distressed behaviour that challenges carers occurs for a reason—PBS focuses on understanding the communication behind these behaviours, enabling us to meet the individual’s needs more effectively.
By enhancing quality of life and addressing these unmet needs, PBS reduces the likelihood of distressed behaviours occurring. The framework is proactive, supportive, and aimed at improving overall wellbeing.
