Research texts offer various definitions, for example:
“...systematic inquiry that uses orderly scientific methods to answer questions or solve problems” (Polit & Hungler, 1987)
“...an attempt to increase the body of knowledge (i.e.; what is currently known about nursing) by discovery of new facts and relationships through a process of systematic scientific enquiry” (MacLeod Clark & Hockey, 1979)
“Research is diligent, systematic inquiry or investigation to validate and refine existing knowledge and generate new knowledge” (Burns & Grove 1993)
Research is defined as human activity based on intellectual application in the investigation of matter. The primary purpose for applied research is discovering, interpreting, and the development of methods and systems for the advancement of human knowledge on a wide variety of scientific matters of our world and the universe. Research can use the scientific method, but need not do so.
Research is a serious academic activity with a set of objectives to explain or analyze or understand a problem or finding solution for problem.

Research is the attempt not only to collect the information but also establish link among various facts and then seek explanation with the unordered events or evidences.
