.
I watched you age through seasons of sorrow,
Your mortal flesh growing frail and thin,
While I remained frozen in yesterday's tomorrow,
Cursed to love what I could never win.
Your hair turned silver like moonbeams on water,
Your eyes grew clouded with time's cruel hand,
I, death's eternal son and daughter,
Could only watch you slip like shifting sand.
That final night when your breathing ceased,
I held your hand as cold as mine,
For once, beloved, we were both deceased—
You in death, I in love's decline.
Now I walk these endless nights alone,
Carrying your memory in my hollow chest,
A vampire's heart, forever unknown,
Loving the dead while living unblessed.
