Genotyping is the process of determining differences in an individual’s genetic make-up (genotype) by examining the DNA sequence using a biological test and comparing it to another individual’s sequence or reference sequence. It reveals the allele that an individual inherits from their parents. Genotyping has traditionally been the use of DNA sequences to define biological populations using molecular tools. This usually does not involve defining an individual’s genes only.
