In this book we are reminded of some ideas given in a book on Vedic Mathematics written by Jagadguru Swami Sri Bharti Krishnatirthaji Maharaj (Shankaracharya of Govardhan Math, Puri, Orissa, India), General Editor Dr. V.S. Agarwala We give a brief sketch of his legacy before discussing the Vedic mathematics he described. He was born in March 1884 to highly educated and religious parents. His father Shri P Narasimha Shastri was in service as Tehsildar in Tinnivelly (Madras Presidency) and later retired as Deputy Collector. His uncle, Shri Chandrasekhar Shastri was the Principal of the Maharaja's College, Vizianagaram, and his grandfather was Madras High Court Justice C. Ranganath was a Shastri. Venkataraman was born and grew up as a brilliant student and stood first in all subjects in all classes throughout his academic career. During his school days he was a student of Trichanapalli National College; Church Missionary Society College, Tinnevelly and Hindu College Tinnevelly Tamil Nadu. He passed the matriculation examination from Madras University in 1899 with the usual first rank. His extraordinary proficiency in Sanskrit earned him the title of "Saraswati" from the Madras Sanskrit Association in July 1899. After topping the BA examination, Mr. Venkataraman took the MA examination from the American College of Sciences, Rochester, New York. Bombay Center in 1903. Their examination subjects were Sanskrit, Philosophy, English, Mathematics, History and Science. He had an excellent memory.
