“…Still Amazing” is a contemporary adaptation of the story of John Newton, the man who wrote the world famous hymn, “Amazing Grace.”
This story parallels the historical figure of John Newton, who died in 1807, as if he lived today in the 21st century. Through a series of epic events and his unrelenting search for his one true love, Newton is imprisoned, tortured and finds himself deeply involved in the black market slave trade in Sudan, Africa. With an ill-timed escape aboard a ship, Newton unintentionally kills the captain and becomes the very reluctant hero and ship’s new commander. Years later, one night out at sea, John is saved from devastation during a violent storm, which changes his heart and leads him to the cause of reforming the atrocities in Sudan. Unknowingly, back at port, a price on Newton’s head will jeopardize his freedom, new found goals and perhaps his last chance of ever finding his lost love and his own liberty he so desperately seeks.
