Artist and Watercolour tutor Eamonn McCrory wrote and illustrated the popular “Mourne Sketchbook” column for the Mourne Observer. This book is comprised of a selection of those articles. Eamonn is ideally situated to observe life the Mournes. His weekend retreat is sandwiched between the mountains and the sea enjoying the same views that in the late 1940’s inspired Professor E. E. Evans to complete ‘Mourne Country’, his seminal work on the region. A lot has changed in the Mournes since then but thankfully much remains the same. Indeed Evans would find many of the images and landscapes included in this book familiar, not least the painting of the cottage close to the Bloody Bridge where he toiled away in longhand at a window facing the mountains with his back to the half door and the sea
