The origin of this book lies in the discovery of letters written by Joseph Morris of Lewes in the early nineteenth century in the archives of Jireh Calvinistic Independent Chapel, Lewes, East Sussex, England. Further research revealed that thye were part of an extensive correspondence he held with William Hudson, Collector of the King's Excise and minister of the Gospel. These have now been made available under the editorship of Pastor J E North, former minister of Jireh Chapel. They have been enhanced with further contemporary correspondence which has been added as appendices to the volume.
