Rugudh me i na Rossai: I was born in the Rosses of West Donegal in Ireland, on the fringes of land and sea. The land was barren and food had to be supplemented from the sea. The sea was a nourisher of the people, but it also claimed the lives of people who depended on it.
Akin to most of the youth of the area, at fourteen years of age I went to the potato harvest in the fields of Scotland. The byres were emptied of animals to make way for us Tatie-Howkers, who were installed therein.
That was the first money I earned. While the conditions were atrocious and the work arduous, the money made the difference between starvation and life.
Since that first start, I rotated my life between fishing and emigration, spending time in England, Europe, and Asia.
Following "Poverty Politics Political Intrigue" came "Truths Myths Deceits", and now my latest book is "Reminiscing Donegal".
